What are you looking at?

Mom bought these balloons for the 4th of July. At the end of the day, we wrote a Bible verse on one, and let it go.

We watched the balloon lift off into the sky. Mom and I were standing on the deck staring in awe at how high this balloon was sailing. We kept saying, "I don't think I've ever seen a balloon go so high!" We had to take occassional neck rests from the pain of having our heads tilted back for so long. Then, we'd look up and say, "Oh, I lost it. Where's the balloon?" The other would say, "11:00." We watched the balloon until it was about the size of a dot of pepper in the sky.

Watching this balloon reminded me of Jesus' ascension back to heaven.

Acts 1:9-11 "And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."

I wonder if those guys had to take "neck rests," too. Can you imagine just standing there talking to Jesus, and as soon as he was finished talking, he was being lifted up into the air? Surely, if any one standing there had any doubts of who this man was, they knew now that this was the son of God! As the men stood, staring into the sky, two angels appeared. They questioned these men, "What are you looking at? Jesus will be back."

One of my favorite stories about my nephew, Josh happened when he was about two years old. He was at the grocery store with my sister. He was stinken cute, so it wasn't unusual for people to stop Trish, and tell her how adorable her son was...awkard! and still is! -sorry about that Josh. :o) This particular day, they were at the grocery store. A dear, sweet elderly lady was standing there in the aisle, looking longingly at little Josh....perhaps thinking back on her days of being a little girl when everything was so carefee, perhaps thinking back on her mothering days, just reliving all those precious memories. Her little moment must have come to an abrupt stop when Josh looked up at her, and said, "What are you 'wookin' at?"

So, in the words of two angels and my nephew Josh, What are you "wookin" at? What are your eyes fixed on?

Are you ready for His return?

Becky,
I never thought about their "necks hurting". :) Very interesting thought!

LOL about Josh. I had forgotten about that. I never thought someone so little could embarrass me so much! :)
